A Lord's Day Meditation: Will You Be Found Worshipping?

Believer, as you gather with God's people today to exalt the name of Jesus Christ to the glory of God - is worshipping Jesus what you will found doing?

There are so many things that our minds often gravitate towards during the gathering of God's people for worship - so many things that are said from the pulpit, or thought in our minds, or are spoken in a Sunday School class...but the question is do these thoughts, words, meditations, etc. truly exalt Jesus Christ?

There is only one thing that should be taking place in our worship and that is what Psalm 96 states - that we "Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name"

But, often we are ascribing (i.e., to attribute or think of as belonging, as a quality or characteristic)...
  • a bad hair day or dress day to one of the brothers or sisters...
  • poor tonation and sound quality to the worship leaders/choir/singers, sound system, etc.
  • undue (and ungodly) criticism of the preacher (this is miles apart from discerning the content of the message)...
  • speculations on why so and so is not in church
  • ill motives to why someone didn't speak to you or hasn't called you
  • criticism/ridicule of any mistake made in the service

Other distracting thoughts are things like...

  • entertaining thoughts of the night before (whatever it was spent doing)...
  • thoughts of today's games (whatever the sport)....
  • thoughts of the day's activities (whatever they might be)...
  • laughter and critique at any small mistake within the service...

I could go on - but the point here is what will you be found doing when you gather with God's people today to worship Jesus Christ?

Will the Triune God be seen as splendid, majestic, beautiful and holy? (Ps 96:6)

Will the mercy of God through the cross of Jesus Christ move you to offer yourself a fresh as a living sacrifice? (Rom 12:1)

Will Jesus Christ be exalted over all your thoughts? (1 Peter 3:15a)

Will you bring the offering of ascribing to the Triune God the glory due His name? (Ps 96:7)

Will the glory of God be what consumes you?

Will you be truly be found worshipping?
