Romans 12:2 "Be Not Conformed To This World"

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV

What does Romans 12:2 tell us about how we should live our lives? Most of us are caught up in trying to fit in and be accepted, as we travel through life. However, this Bible verse tells us that we should not conform to this world. As Christians, it is easy to see that the world is seemingly upside down. What once was right, is considered wrong and was wrong is now considered right. Sometimes even popular. So what do we do?

On a daily basis, you may find yourself in a situation, where behaving like a follower of Christ, could cause you to be mocked, insulted, ousted or worse. Our human instinct is to fit in and be accepted. However, Romans 12:2 tells us that this is not our responsibility here on Earth.

Instead, we should not conform to the ways of this world. We should allow ourselves to be transformed by God and live as he commands. By our transformation, we subconsciously give others permission to do the same. Regardless of the consequences or ridicule that we may face, it is important to live as Jesus commands us to. This can be one of the most scary things for many Christians. In their heart, they know what to do. But their pride will not allow it. They are ashamed of what they truly believe and refuse to share it with the rest of the world. This is not god's plan for us. We need a renewing of our mind. By this renewal, we can begin to shine as God's children and help others to do the same.

Haven't you ever met another Christian and thought "I want what he's got"? There is something fantastic about a person who has totally given themselves to Christ. They have a joy and a spirit that seems unbreakable. They can light up a room and put a smile on anyones face. They are not ashamed of their faith and are always willing to share it with anyone who will listen.

These are the people who have already experienced a renewing of their mind and are not conforming to the world, like most. yet they seem happier than most. This is what I believe Romans 12:2 is talking about.

As a Christian, you are somewhat of a rebel in today's world. You are not meant to follow the pack. It will be scary to transform your life and live in the will of God. But remember this. God may send sheep to battle the Lions, but god's sheep will always prevail.
