Bible Lesson on a New Creation in Christ

What is Sin?

If you have accepted Jesus into your heart, you should not keep carrying on your sinful lifestyle. Sin happens when you disobey against God's commandments in the bible. Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Immediately after taking a bite from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they became able to discern between right and wrong. They saw their own nakedness and they felt ashamed sir quickly sew fig leaves to clothe themselves.

You may wonder why there is no sin in being able to discern right and wrong. In fact, having the ability to discern between right and wrong can prevent us from sinning. However, this isn't the will of God from the beginning. God created everything to be good and pleasant in his eyes. His will is for Adam and Eve to be naïve.

Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan, who came in disguise in the form of a serpent, and they did not take heed of God's commandments to not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. As a result, they sinned against God and God punished each of them including Adam, Eve and the serpent for their own sins.

Finally, God chased Adam and Eve out of Eden to the east side of the garden. God also put a flaming sword that turn in every direction and a cherub to guard the Tree of Life. You can read about the serpent's deception on Adam and Eve in Genesis chapter 3 (Romans 6:23 KJV; Romans 5:18-19 KJV).

Die to Your Old Self

Your old self is the way you used to behave before conversion. When you accept Jesus, your life will change so that it can become a testimony for other people. After conversion, you must stop the old way of your life such as smoking, complaining, bitterness, jealousy, hatred, fighting, gambling, scold vulgar words, drugs, alcoholism and other types of sins. Many Christians stress on overcome sins that affect their physical health such as smoking, drugs and alcoholism but they forgot they also have to overcome their inner sins such as complaining, bitterness and etc (Galatians 5:19-24 KJV).

A New Creation in Jesus Christ

Christians must live their new lives in Christ. You must surrender your old lifestyles to God and strive to keep yourself holy. The Holy Spirit will do work in you and give you the power to eliminate your bad and sinful lifestyle so that you can become holy for God if you would let him help you. Jesus Christ is a good role model for us. He abandoned the luxury in heaven and came down to earth to die for our sins on the Calvary. While on earth, Jesus did not sin and he was like a blameless lamb sacrificed for our sins. You must imitate Jesus Christ and be more and more like him (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV; Romans 6:4 KJV; Ephesians 1:4 KJV; 1 Peter 1:6 KJV)

Make the Decision to Surrender Yourself to God

You must agree and make the decision to stop your sinful lifestyle. If you refuse, God cannot force you and he won't help you. God gives each of us a free will and it is up to you to let him enter into your life (Proverbs 16:9 KJV; 2 Timothy 2:26 KJV).

Where is God's Commandments?

It is important to read the bible so that you understand what God's commandments are and how to follow them. With the new covenant in effect, Christians must follow all the commandments in the New Testament and the moral laws in the Old Testament of the bible. Example of moral laws includes the Ten Commandments and the observation of the Sabbath day.
